Charmaine is 18, is also known as Dexter, and lives in South West London. Some time ago, she uploaded some of her first songs, recorded with her smartphone, on digital platforms and seems to have enjoyed it. The influences are all there: hip-hop, bedroom soul, lo-fi, and then emotionality, melancholy, and the knowledge that it’s a youth in a world in turmoil.
“Blue Skies” is her latest single, it runs on two R’n’B chords where the guitar and the electric keyboard chase each other in joyful and energetic leaps, and where Dexter’s voice is more harmonious and lighter than ever, all perfect under the supervision of the producer Dom Valentino.
The best way to enjoy it is by also watching her video clip. Let’s take a tour in the neighborhood where Charmaine and her friends live, on a sunny day with a clear sky that seem to anticipate the best to come.
