Our first encounter with in earnest’s music was with the song “your dog / good boy”: what strikes here is their voices’ discreet elegant style, with embracing acoustic sounds that embellish an arrangement in a perfect balance.
Today their EP “reasons to stay alive” comes out, a title that comes from Matt Haig’s book: six enyojable songs, the acustic structure is still the main feature of this trio from Southend-On-Sea; the lyrics deal with mental distress issues with words and thoughts that feel lucid and sharp, but still soothing and aimed at a brighter future.
Guitar arpeggios that caress folk music with a hint of post-rock soaked in nostalgia, Sarah and Tom’s voices have a major presence, you can feel more maturity in the songwriting and the idea of presenting their songs as they are, not charging them too much, enhancing just the necessary.
The band will play live on October 14th at Chinnerys in Southend-On-Sea, and on October 21st at Amersham Arms in London, both perfect occasions to listen to “reasons to stay alive” directly from their hands, from their voices.
