“The Good Fortune” opens slowly, in an almost elegiac practice, with that drumming that evokes gloomy and post-industrial British scenarios, it almost seems to see those anonymous Manchurian apartment buildings that replaced the Victorian houses in those aberrant early architectural experiments of social atomization in the UK.
But here we are in Lombardy, dealing with the Ben & The Giant, one of the most distinctly international sounding bands that can be found around. What emerges from listening to these five tracks is the ability of this band to build a sound flow that unfolds in a sexy and electric way.
"Stuck In My Head" is an indelible refrain, surrounded by a merry-go-round of colorful sounds, a distorted and psychedelic joy. "Imaginary Love" is a track à-la Doves, the Cheshire band from which our four guys from Novara seem to have absorbed the taste for airy and ethereal melodies, for the arrangements that give depth to the listening. "Son of the Universe" is skilled pop mastery but with a rock'n'roll spirit (and there is also a very interesting videoclip here) and concludes a listening that convinces from all points of view, suggesting that the Ben & The Giant are a band that will be known to be appreciated live, without any doubt and not only in Italy.
